About Me
Morris "Mac" McAdoo for Mecklenburg County Commission - District 1
I was born and raised in a small town in Central North Carolina, just ninety minutes from Charlotte, where my mother and grandmother instilled in me a deep commitment to community service and responsibility. From an early age, I learned that true leadership comes from listening, serving others, and standing up for what’s right, even when it’s difficult.

That commitment has guided me throughout my life and career. As a prosecutor, I stood up for special needs victims who often had no one else to fight for them. Later, I devoted years of my legal practice to advocating for people with disabilities ensuring their rights were upheld and their voices were heard. Today, as the founder of the McAdoo Law Group in Uptown Charlotte, I continue to serve small businesses and individuals, helping families and communities navigate challenges with dignity and fairness.

My service extends beyond the courtroom. In Charlotte, I’ve been honored to serve on the Organization:

-
Founding Chair of the PSF Foundation, which supports our young people in North Charlotte
-
Past Board Member the Mecklenburg County Bar Association
-
Past Chairman of the John S. Leary Bar Association of Black Attorneys,
-
Past Board Member of the Privatization/Competition Advisory Committee for the City of Charlotte
-
Past Vice-Chairman of the Local Advisory Council for NC Legal Aid
-
Past 2nd Vice Chairman of the Black Political Caucus, and
-
Past Board Member of the North Carolina Association of Black Attorneys.

I am also proud to be a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., where the commitment to achievement and community service mirrors the values I strive to live by each day.

Each of these experiences has reinforced my belief that strong communities require principled, accessible, and accountable local leadership. I am running for Mecklenburg County Commissioner, District 1, because county government directly shapes our daily lives from housing affordability and land use decisions to environmental stewardship, public safety, mental health services, and support for working families.

Vision & Agenda
County Budget & Tax Policy
With increasing uncertainty in federal and state funding, the County must make disciplined, people-first budget decisions that protect essential services and strengthen community stability. As a County Commissioner, my focus will be on prioritizing investments that deliver real outcomes for residents while demanding accountability for every dollar spent. I believe we can better support families, nonprofits, and local partners through smarter budgeting and strategic use of county resources, without shifting the burden onto property taxpayers who are already feeling the strain.
Affordability & Housing
As the County refines its approach to housing affordability, I support results-driven strategies that meaningfully address affordability for residents—not just on paper, but in practice. I also believe strongly in holding major partners accountable for the commitments they make when receiving public subsidies, incentives, or county support. When taxpayer resources are used to advance development, affordability and community benefit commitments must be enforced, transparent, and deliver real value to the public.
Voice for Established Communities
I have been encouraged by many residents from established communities in District 1 who are increasingly concerned about the impacts of rapid growth. My legal background, combined with deep community ties, allows me to thoughtfully balance development needs while preserving the character, greenspace, and quality of life that define our neighborhoods. When growth outpaces critical infrastructure, such as stormwater systems, roads, and utilities, the long-term costs often fall on residents through higher taxes, increased insurance rates, and preventable property damage. As County Commissioner, my goal is to ensure responsible growth that is properly planned and funded, so existing residents are not left to shoulder additional costs that worsen affordability challenges in District 1.
Health & Human Services
My commitment to strengthening Mecklenburg County’s health and human services system is rooted in my legal work advocating for North Carolinians whose access to behavioral health care and Medicaid funded services was threatened by funding decisions unrelated to medical necessity. I have seen firsthand how gaps in mental health funding push crises into emergency rooms, onto law enforcement, and onto families who are already overwhelmed. As a County Commissioner, I will work to protect continuity of care, prioritize early intervention and community-based services, and ensure the County is prepared to respond when federal or state funding decisions place residents at risk.
